Mayra Ortiz was born and raised in the Village of Summit. Eight years ago, Mayra and her husband, Jose, purchased her childhood home in which they are raising their two daughters, Emma and Elisa, and their new puppy, Pepa.

Mayra attended Dominican University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management, and then attended Lewis University, where she was awarded a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership. Throughout her younger years, she was an avid soccer player which led to her induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame at Dominican University. Mayra’s love for the sport, combined with her passion to help the children in our community, inspired her to volunteer as a coach at the Summit Park District.

Mayra has been employed by Nicor Gas for the past five years. She also serves on the Illinois Utilities Business Diversity Council, a board created to advance the utilization of diverse businesses among the Illinois utility companies, where she helps plan events that engage diverse contractors in the utility environment.

Mayra has been honored to be on the Village of Summit Board for 4 years, and she is excited to represent the residents and develop a bright future for our Village. She continues to strengthen communication from the village regarding community services available to residents.

Mayra is an advocate for the taxpayers of the Village of Summit. She is committed to watching over our tax dollars by providing constituent assistance in the most cost-effective way possible. Mayra is passionate about providing superior taxpayer service while keeping an eye on the bottom line when it comes to the taxes we all pay.
