Karen J. Wasko has been a homeowner and resident in the Village of Summit for the past 60 years, where she and her husband Robert have raised their two daughters.

Karen has served as Village Trustee for the past 4 years and has enjoyed working and making a contribution to the community. She was introduced to Village government soon after she left the School Board at Argo Community High School District #217. Karen recognizes the importance of local government and how to assist constituents in an effort to make the Village of Summit a wonderful place to live.

Karen’s professional career includes over 32 years of management, organization and community service. She started her career at Natural Gas Pipeline Company for 10 years, until she left and decided to make her mission to serve our community. She provided 10 years of service to the Village of McCook Police Department, followed by another 12 years of service at our Argo High School. Her valuable professional experience in the public sector has only reinforced her commitment to our neighborhood and has allowed her to understand what is needed to strengthen the community.

Karen enjoys working with the Village of Summit and assisting wherever possible. She takes pride in our Village and is especially excited to witness the change of 63rd Street with the 63rd Street Beautification Project. She is proud of Summit’s Home Rule status, as it has allowed the Village to purchase a new ambulance for the Fire Department and a new truck for Public Works, among many other possibilities that just were not feasible before.

Being attentive and understanding the needs of the Village is the hallmark of a successful trustee. She continues to achieve one of her many goals - meeting new people and making new friends.
